Music and Stories for Children Toot-n-Tell
is
presented by professional flutist and composer/arranger Kim J. Teal and
storyteller Theresa Pickering (Youth Services Coordinator at the Ruth Hughes
Memorial District Library) as a means of promoting music appreciation and
reading for children. All performances
are presented free of charge for schools and libraries. A variety of
children's stories are read by Miss Theresa and original music is
performed on modern, ethnic, and historic flutes by Miss Kim, with various percussion instruments
added.
2010 News
Toot-n-Tell will be visiting local elementary schools in May with
the Toot-n-Tell Puppet
Theater presentation of A Carnival of Animals:
Creatures of Fur, Feather, and Fin as Portrayed in Words and Music,
plus Miss Theresa will be reading the book The Frogs and Toads All
Sang by Arnold Lobel.
2009
News Toot-n-Tell members Kim Teal and Theresa Pickering presented
their yearly storytime featuring Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole
Christmas and The Night Before
Christmas on
December 21, 2009. A Christmas sing-along and "goody bag" drawing followed. Toot-n-Tell visited several local elementary schools in June of
2009, performing music and reading books. New books for the summer
reading program at Ruth
Hughes
Memorial District Library were also previewed. Toot-n-Tell presented a Leprechaun-themed storytime at Ruth Hughes
Memorial District Library on March 17, 2009. Miss Theresa read The Luckiest St.
Patrick's Day Ever by Teddy Slater and Miss Kim performed
several Irish tunes on the tin whistle and taught everyone how to say
"Happy St. Patrick's Day" in Irish. Old News Toot-n-Tell members Kim Teal and Theresa Pickering were joined by flutist Connie Rossow on December 20, 2007 for a special storytime featuring Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Toot-n-Tell presented an original story with music by Kim J. Teal, The Knightly Thing to Do for Halloween, 2007 in area elementary schools. Toot-n-Tell visited area schools in March and May, 2007,
presenting a variety of books and music.
Toot-n-Tell members Kim Teal and Theresa Pickering were joined by
flutist Christy
Dodge
on May 10 and 13, 2005 for special Winnie the Pooh storytimes at the Ruth Hughes
Memorial District Library in Imlay City. Area children came dressed up in Winnie
the Pooh outfits or costumes and also did dancing and art activities.
